Book Review: Eat Like An Athlete by Simone Austin!

February 24, 2019

With a title like ‘Eat Like An Athlete’… I bet some of you are thinking… ‘but I’m not an athlete’! Well, guess what? This book is not just for athletes. It’s not even just for active people. It’s for EVERYONE!

This book is for everyone.

The author, Simone Austin, is a well-accomplished Advanced Sports Dietitian, having worked with the Men’s Australian cricket team, Melbourne Storm, Melbourne City and is currently with Hawthorn Football club (where she has been for over 10 years now). But despite her work in elite sport, Simone is also an Accredited Practising Dietitian – someone who works with the greater community as well, including those with chronic disease.

Simone keeps everyone in mind throughout this book and always re-iterates that anyone can benefit from understanding how an elite athlete eats and can apply much of it to themselves.

The book is divided into 3 sections:
– Food and Your Body
– Eating for Performance and Recovery
– Strategies for Healthy Eating

With chapters such as:
– Fat: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
– The Immune System
– Superfoods
– Strategies for a Speedy Recovery
– Quick Meal Ideas

Simone debunks nutrition myths, shares factual nutrition information (without being too scienc-ey or too dry) and shares plenty of practical ideas on how to implement her advice, throughout the book.

There are VERY FEW mainstream books authored by Accredited Practising Dietitians and/or Accredited or Advanced Sports Dietitians (the most credible professionals working in the nutrition space). It is wonderful to see a book like this hit the shelves!

You can purchase a copy here.

*This is not a sponsored review. I bought my own copy of Simone’s book.
