4 things you did not know about dietitians!

Did you know?

1. We may or may not like cooking!
– Yes, not all dietitians love to cook! Some may profess to be chefs, to be great cooks, to love to be in the kitchen, but certainly not all!!

2. We don’t just help people to lose weight!
– We have a number of roles. Here are a couple of examples: oncology dietitians (cancer), gastro dietitians (IBS, gastro surgery etc), sports dietitians, paediatric dietitians, allergy dietitians, ICU (intensive care) dietitians, diabetes dietitians, aged care dietitians, eating disorder dietitians, research dietitians, food service dietitians etc etc etc (and a number of us wear a number of hats!)

3. We’re not all vegetarians/vegans!
– I’m not sure why, but many assume that dietitians don’t eat animal products! Of course, some of us may choose to exclude animal products from our diet for various personal reasons (just like anyone else), but we certainly don’t all do that!

4. In a social setting, we are not focussing on what you eat!
– It is often assumed that dietitians are always focussing on what people are eating. We actually don’t tend to pay attention to others food choices if we aren’t working. If we did pay attention all the time, it would be a bit like a Doctor trying to assess and diagnose someone at a party just by looking at them (how weird would that be!?)

Hope you enjoyed learning a little more about dietitians!
